Late Harvest Riesling, 2008, Marlborough
Vineyard Background: The grapes for this wine are sourced Landmark Vineyard at the base of the Omaka Valley in Marlborough. The grapes were harvested very late, in the first week of May at 29 Brix.
Colour: At bottling this wine was a light straw/honey coloured.
Nose: Classic Riesling, tending to the citrus end of the spectrum. Tropical limes, grapefruit and apricot come to the fore with hints of green apple and beeswax.
Palate: A strongly fruit driven wine with hints of botrytis influence. The initial sweet entry is well balanced with crisp acidity and a refreshingly dry finish. The wine is succulent but not cloying with excessive residual sugar.
Suggested Food Match:
Perfect complement to cheese, pate’ and fruit platters. Serve lightly chilled.
Winemaker’s Comments:
The wine is light and fresh with lots of appealing fruity characters from cool fermentation. Drink now or cellar for 2-5 years for bottle age and complexity.
Varietal: Riesling 100%
Winemaker: Rex Sunde
Region: Marlborough
Alcohol: 12%
