 Roy and Janelle Sunde's Kauri Ridge vineyards are located in the picturesque Oratia Valley, west of Auckland. Oratia, meaning "the place of persistent sun", an apt name for this sheltered valley in the lee of the Waitakere Ranges, where the mighty Kauri tree still grows abundantly.
The vineyard blocks are small, allowing each one to be hand tended for premium quality grapes. White varieties are planted on the flat ground and reds are confined to the thin soils of the northern slopes, where they benefit from extra heat. |
